DIY Wedding: Catherine & Hans’ Invitations
Part 2, as promised! An inside peek into the making of Catherine & Hans’ amazing invitations. Yes my dears, all DIY! Designed by the groom and handcrafted with love. Take it away, Hans!

The Blue Piano. The blue piano was an old piano we found on Craigslist, we picked it up, drove it out to my grandfather’s house, placed it in his field near the river bank painted it blue and then shot a million photos. I then picked out the best one and did some touch up in Photoshop, color saturation and such. But the camera was on a tripod and my Dad was clicking the button. Bless his heart. Also note it was about 35 degrees outside, and my wife’s dress had a zipper that broke, so it was extra cold for her. Also the paint on the piano was wet, so she sat on a little foam pad and a t-shirt…

The Invitations. [ed. note: any emphasis on "done by hand," "all hand typed" below is from iDiY].
The actual invites were old player piano rolls, with an RSVP postcard, map, directions, menu glued to them. Our “blue piano” photo was then inserted into the roll and it was all rolled up, reinserted into it’s box and wrapped.

The RSVP postcard was perforated on the glue line and on the map/directions line, so that you could detach the RSVP and mail it back.

The stamp on the RSVP was designed by me and printed at Stamps.com. All of the perforations were done by hand with my sewing machine.

The announcements were all hand typed with my typewriter.

Everything was then wrapped in vintage maps that I found at my Grandfather’s house when he passed away a year ago. The maps are old blue and white land survey maps of the area around his house out in North River Washington, which is actually where we took the piano photo at, so it all has personal significance.

Sigh. What’s not to love about this amazing wedding? Thank you so much Hans and Catherine for sharing your very special day with us. All my best wishes to you two DIY rockstars!

That is absolutely stunning! I am in awe of anyone who can do that much typing on a typewriter. All the little details–from perforating the cards with her sewing machine to using the maps from her grandfather’s house–are jaw-droppingly wonderful.
Glad to have found your blog quite accidentally on Creature Comforts!
So I just re-read more carefully and realized that HE was the one who did all that. Now I’m really blown away!!
